About us
We announce the commencement of the combined Orthopedic and Rheumatology clinic at the American Medical Center. Doctors Dr. Stelios Hatzichristofis, Orthopedic Specialist, and Dr. Nedi Zannettou, Rheumatology Specialist and Pathologist, with years of experience, will provide high-level services and, among other things, address Osteoporosis with the attention it deserves. The joint Rheumatology and Orthopedic clinic is not something new, but it has been essential and offered at many academic hospitals for many years. Proper clinical diagnosis remains the cornerstone for the correct treatment of the patient. Symptoms such as pain, and more, can cause great confusion in patients, who rightfully start searching for information, often resorting to online sources and, in turn, causing panic. MRIs - the medical revolution of the 20th century with their invaluable contribution to diagnosis, when used inappropriately, can lead to contrary results and even unnecessary surgeries.
It's crucial to make it clear that we do not treat MRIs, analyses, or X-rays, but the patient themselves. A detailed medical history and thorough examination, combined with various diagnostic tests, significantly improve the chances of accurate diagnosis. The combination of experienced specialists in Orthopedics, Rheumatology, and Pathology at the AMC clinic results in a high degree of clinical assessment, always complemented by the appropriate hematological and targeted radiological examinations. Based on all the data, we create a suitable treatment plan that may include targeted pharmacological therapy, surgical intervention, or a combination of treatments, often with the assistance and collaboration of other healthcare professionals such as physiotherapists, hydrotherapy, and exercise specialists.
Special and particular importance is given to the diagnosis of a condition known as osteoporosis, as well as the assessment of bone density measurement. In cases of vertebral fractures (vertebral collapse), which are equivalent to severe osteoporosis, DXA machines may give us 'high' measurements. Something similar occurs in patients with osteoarthritis and calcifications in the spine. In these cases, there is a risk of misdiagnosing severe osteoporosis, which may lead to new multiple fractures in the near future.
The correct treatment is entirely dependent on the diagnosis. Many times, for chronic illnesses, treatment will be personalized and long-term, with the possibility of adjustment and regular assessment of its effectiveness. Additionally, a patient with a correct and clear diagnosis often feels psychologically much better.
For each patient, as much time as needed is given for a comprehensive evaluation without double burden.
